A few months ago, David Tunner walked through our doors with something we see often, but never get tired of: someone ready to bet on themselves.
David wasn't already in fire and security. He came to us with inspiration — a sense that this industry had real opportunity, and the willingness to start from the beginning to find out.
That's exactly what our EAL Level 3 Award in the Design, Installation and Commissioning of Electronic Security Systems is built for. Over five hands-on days, David went from knowing nothing about camera resolution to understanding what actually separates a usable CCTV image from a wasted install. He learned to read an intruder alarm circuit — not just wire it, but understand it: single, double, and triple end-of-line configurations, and why each one exists.
By the end of the course, David wasn't just someone who'd sat through training. He held a nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated Level 3 qualification, covering CCTV, Intruder Alarm and Access Control.
Here's the part we're proudest of: David came back to see us afterwards. Not because he had to — because he wanted to talk about what came next. He sat down with Ferdinand, our Director of Operations, and the two of them worked through where this qualification could actually take him.
The answer came quickly. David is now starting as a Trainee Electronic Engineer.
We've trained a lot of people. But every so often, someone reminds you exactly why this work matters — someone who saw potential in an industry most people never think about, and had the courage to go all in on it.
We think David's got a genuinely bright future ahead of him. And we're proud we got to be part of how it started.
If you're standing where David was — curious about this industry but not sure where to begin — our next EAL Level 3 Award in Electronic Security Systems starts.
