On 7 May 2025, Fylde Fire Systems Ltd, a Lancashire-based fire alarm engineering company, was prosecuted at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court after serious shortcomings were uncovered at Morvern Care Centre, a care home in Thornton-Cleveleys.
An inspection by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service in December 2020 revealed multiple breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005:
❌ No appropriate fire detectors or alarms in place (Article 13(1)(a)) ❌ Failure to maintain systems in efficient working order (Article 17(1)) ❌ Failure to cooperate with the responsible persons for fire safety (Article 22(1)(a))
The company pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay:
£30,000 fine
£2,000 victim surcharge
£18,725 in costs
